Simple Aromatherapy to Calm & Comfort You

As we navigate the changes that the global pandemic has brought to our lives, communities and homes, we are experiencing a range of emotions. Like many of you, we are feeling deep concern, uneasiness, and at times fear. But, we are also experiencing hope, compassion, and love. With this wave of emotions, comes heightened stress and anxiety.

Several essential oils can help support your nervous system to calm your body & mind. Essential oils have been used for thousands of years by those looking for anxiety relief. They are extremely concentrated fragrant extracts - for example, it takes three pounds of lavender flowers to make just 15 ml of lavender essential oil.

How to use:

Essential oils can be used for aromatherapy by placing a few drops in your home diffuser, adding them to bathwater, applying them topically onto your skin by mixing a few drops of essential oils with a carrier oil, such as sweet almond oil, grapeseed oil or jojoba oil.

We have also been making our own room & pillow mist by adding a few drops of essential oil to a small sprau bottle filled with distilled water (See Recipe Below).

We recommend the following essential oils to help soothe your stress and anxiety, naturally.

Lavender Oil

Lavender is one of the most popular and versatile essential oils. This floral scent can help calm your body and alleviate anxiety and stress. Lavender essential oil is thought to calm anxiety by positively impacting the limbic system, the part of the brain that controls emotions.

Vetiver Oil

Vetiver oil comes from the grassy vetiver plant native to India. It is often referred to as the ‘oil of tranquillity’. It has a sweet, earthy scent that’s similar to sandalwood essential oil, and it can alleviate emotional stress, anxiety & depression. Vetiver may be less known than other essential oils, but it is still very effective.

Rose Oil

Inhaling rose oil promotes calmness and reduces any tension that you may be feeling. Rose oil is often recommended to those who are grieving or feeling down. Rose essential oil is extracted from rose petals, and it has a calming floral scent known to relax the senses.

Ylang Ylang Oil

This tropical scent is both calming and uplifting. It is one of the best essential oils to use if you want to boost your emotional well being and promote relaxation. It can also reduce your blood pressure and has mild sedative qualities too.

Frankincense Oil

Frankincense oil is made from the resin of the Boswellia tree. It has a rich, sweet aroma. It can lift your mood, boost the oxygen supply to your brain and stimulate the limbic system, helping to bring your emotions back into check and ease anxiety.

Bergamot oil

Bergamot oil has an invigorating citrus scent and gives Earl Grey tea its signature fragrance.  Sourced from the peel of a citrus fruit known as Citrus bergamia, this essential oil may help to relieve anxiety and improve mood.
